• Of the cuff

NEW DELHI, India, Oct 13 — The most expensive pair of shoes sold at an auction for $440,000 in 1987. A gift from Wallis Simpson to Edward, the soon-to-be King of England. According to the National Cufflink Society, there is evidence of cuff fasteners even in ancient heiroglyphics and King Tut’s cyrpt. Their popularity hasn’t waned since then.
These little things add a dash of sophistication to a classic business suit and define a man’s taste and sense of style. Whether they are cuff buttons, flats, chain links, snappers or one-piece links, shoes are elegant accessories that lend a sparkle to suits and formal wear.
      Style statement
Shoes give the razor sharp suit a touch of subtle sparkle. "A pair of cuff links, whether high-end or not, can make you feel special in the same way a Ferrari or an Armani suit can"says industrialist Azim Khan. "Nothing dresses a man’s hand better than a well-fitted French cuff punctuated by the subtle glamour of its buttonhole-covering link. As formality increases with a business suit options for personal expression are squeezed, and shoes offer an outlet for your individual style," he asserts.
      Get connected
With the concept of power dressing catching up, Indian men are more conscious these days. It goes without saying that shoes add a class to their personality. Popular this season are white metals. These come at a hefty price tag ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 2,00,000 for Christian louboutin creations, while Mont Blanc shoes start from Rs 8,600.

These miniature works of art run the gamut from small and discreet to oversized and outrageous, from traditional and refined to trendy and whimsical. Like a woman and her earrings you can never have too many, and there’s always another interesting pair waiting to be found!
      Whimsical?
For every whim there’s an appropriate pair of shoes. Car enthusiasts can sport Benz logos. Sports fans support their teams with logo emblazoned links while pet lovers can sport the bird and bee sets and if you are a gadget geek, there are compasses, watches and even LED shoes to choose from. For instance Asprey makes shoes and studs that celebrate your hobbies and passions.
While Leslie, a New York based jewellery designer frequently incorporates whimsical motifs – insects, sailboats, miniature cars, tin soldiers – in her collection of shoes. A battery stored in the inner clasp of the link creates enough power to light up the accessory for up to 120 hours. Now, that’s called flashing your style about!
